Ação Sonho de Criança

(Action 'A Child's Dream') 11-10-2009. Hoping our kids' dreams come true.
Music: - 'O Circo Chegou', by Rui Grudi, from the album 'O Canibal'.

PROJETO VIVER is up and running again thanks to Ivaneide who works tirelessly leading the project. She has been extremely busy at work over the past year. Local people can now see the result of her efforts. TUPAN, her employers have opened up a massive DIY Superstore in Serra Talhada. It's very like B&Q in the UK. The first signs of an improved local economy and a role model for other businesses about what can be done to introduce an improved standard of marketing.

Despite this progress, the sad reality is that many, many people in this city live in abject poverty. No houses, no electricity, no sanitation, no water, poor opportunities to access health, education and social services. The kids you see in the slideshow are just the very top part of the iceberg, We could show you scenes which would definitely pull you affect you adversely for a long time. However, this is not the point of this blog. We appeal to you the reader directly for active and financial help because the Project is not funded by local or central government - only by small donations of food or clothes or footwear from local people. Despite that, miracles have happened if you have read previous pages of the Blog.

What follows is not the expressed opinion of Projeto Viver, but more based on personal observations of the writer.

I would like to explain to my friends who live abroad and now have better access to this Blog that in many local schools there is a very high percentage of children whose parents are drug addicts, alcoholics and or prostitutes. AIDS is rife here and many young parents die of that condition. Children are, and have been affected emotionally and are made to go to school so their responsible adults can claim the 'Bolsa Familia' - a small income introduced by President Lula based on school attendance. For the teachers this is a problem as some of these kids can be extremely disruptive. I know a post-graduate teacher who is writing about this very issue. When she told me her findings, I was moved to tears. Unbelievable in 2010 - YES! I have to try to ask for some help somehow. What else can I do? This is a very desperate situation. Isn't it?

I shall write more later or on request. But, I appeal directly to our readers to consider donating some money (however small) to this properly registered charity as it reaches the parts of society that only local knowledge can reach i.e. the people who need it most. All money donated will go directly to help the very poorest people create opportunities with supoort to improve their situation. I can guarantee, there are no overheads which need to be paid for. How many other charities can evidence that? I'll leave you with that thought.
